Assessment For Learning
Children are regularly assessed and monitored against national standards from an early age, enabling us to support children in their learning. Our assessment data allows us to carefully monitor the progress of children’s academic development from Reception upwards, allowing staff opportunities to further stretch and challenge more able children. Similarly, we are able to use the information to put early interventions in place to support children where necessary.
We utilise a range of approaches within school from informal observations of children’s work, in class weekly assessments, termly standardised papers and adaptive computer based assessments.
It is important to understand that assessment drives children’s learning, rather than simply being a tool for measurement. Parents are able gain clear understanding of where their child is in their learning and progress they have made and similarly, children know where they are in their learning and where they need to go next.
Secondary School Selective Entrance Assessments
We are proud of our record of success in selective secondary school entrance examinations, with the majority of pupils gaining places at the school of their choice. The staff provide support and guidance for parents and children in choosing their secondary school. In Years 5 and 6 we offer preparation for the entrance examinations for the selective secondary schools in Wirral both in curriculum time and as extra-curricular provision.
The vast majority of children move on to schools such as:
- West Kirby Grammar School
- Calday Grange Grammar School
- Upton Hall FCJ
- St Anselm’s College
